We found Walk 91 on the internet when looking for walking near Melbourne. The itinerary…we had.. No problems whatsoever – very clear. We would really love to thank all those who put us up and put up with us: The motel owner.. who was very helpful on our arrival; all the team at the Eco Centre for fantastic food and especially for sharing their incredible knowledge and passion for the local wildlife – we could have stayed there for a week; The B&B for a beautiful meal and also for taking us on a drive through the forest before dropping us off the next day; to.. the last B&B.. for being so attentive and friendly and for warm croissants in the morning; and also to the crew at the Roadhouse for good food, good beer in a relaxed atmosphere. Not forgetting our driver for a very friendly and reliable transfer service, with a load of local knowledge to boot. Everybody we met was just right – genuinely friendly and welcoming without putting any pressure on. We ate well, slept well and were able to be totally relaxed. Oh, and we walked well, as well! It was very easy to find the meeting spots each day. The Great Ocean Walk was beautiful. Very varied terrain. Wild enough to feel really different, but tame enough for a truly ‘no stress’ experience. The timings given are very safe – we are hardly great athletes but we were early to each meet on the 5 day walk, apart from the first day (rain, mud and jet lag!). Incredible to see so much wildlife in such a short time – we have walked in Europe and in North and South America but nowhere have we seen so many animals, so close up and in so few days. However ..the first days walk needs to come off the muddy loggers track somehow. Our tips for future walkers are….Enjoy! The volcanic region where we live in central France is in the running for UNESCO world heritage status – hence the photo of Christian advertising local interestsat the Twelve Apostles. Vote for la Chaine de Puys – Faille de Limagne if you get a chance (http://www.chainedespuys-limagnefault.com/) and get over to France for some fantastic walking!
Thank you for a wonderful walk!
