We heard of walk 91 from word of mouth and found the itinerary to be very clear and well planned. Catered well for our group. Answers to any questions were prompt. From my point of view the walking package was fine. All communication was through our team leader Jill. All I had to do was turn up.
Both our accommodation venues were very clean and comfortable. It was great not to have to think about meals after a long days walking. Especially enjoyed my stay at the Conservation Lodge. The Eco tour to see the important work being done there was interesting and informative. Well done! Johanna Cottages, nestled in lovely farming country, where we had the whole place to ourselves, with great meals delivered worked very well for us.
Meeting places were easy to find, made easier by our driver, who was very obliging and informative. He is a real delight and made our walk even more special.
I enjoyed the walk very much even though I found it quite tiring. Because I am not a fast walker and pick up time restraints, I was frustrated that I was not able to fully appreciate the flora and fauna and the spectacular views.
More frequent signage, such as our position related to the map and how far to a certain point, would have been helpful for our time management. Also, information signage at places such as a Midden with some history. I assume that by now, the over grown track in the Milanesia Beach/Nettle Pass area has been cleared.
Be aware that the GOW track is not like a suburban bush walk and that 21kms in this type terrain is not the same as 21kms of a suburban half marathon. Take and drink at least 3 Lts of water and have plenty of energy bars or sport supplements, for energy and electrolytes.
If I were to do another 6 day walk I would have a days’ break in the middle, or do shorter days over a longer time. This would have given me more time and energy to take in the scenery. I am not a fast walker and not as young as I used to be. Having said that, I would not have missed it for anything!
