Corinne and I thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and the walk with 91. We googled the walk after hearing about different options.
All bases were covered to prepare and plan for each day. The run down with Mark before hand was great. Our drivers added encouragement and insightful info on the day to day trips.
The accommodation and hosts was lovely – all providers were thoughtful, caring and just wanted us to have a great stay. The hospitality and sense of service was commendable…….. And all meetings were timely … mostly the guys were waiting for us! The Great Ocean Walk was ….Great to do and to complete – mostly varied and great chance to see koala, echidna, wallaby, birds and the 3 snakes…. We were surprised at seeing so few people on the track, even as day hikers! The track was pretty dry, no rain and no hot weather.
As we walked through the soft sand (?day 2) the parks contractors were redoing the path – the sand became softer and deeper in the renovated part, so we were glad that they had only just started! Day 5 had quite a bit of blackberry and scotch thistle over the path, so my shorts were probably not the best option. As you know, a bit more info about km to the next point of interest would be good. Many of the signs seemed to face the oncoming walkers.
Some more arrows would be good – some paths go off at different times which were potentially confusing e.g. at Devils Kitchen campsite. Our tips would be….
When crossing the rivers/creeks on the beach, keep your eyes on the ocean, not your backs as we did! What to look for when looking for koalas on that 1st day.
We didn’t know where to look, what trees to look in and how far along the track to start looking! The eventual sighting was fantastic! Thank you very much for your thoughtfulness and open willingness to be of service to us!
